ORANJESTAD – During the week of July 10, 2023, Aruba Airport Authority N.V.’s CEO, Joost Meijs, President also of the Dutch Caribbean Corporation of Airports (DCCA) and Mrs. Joanne Christiaans, Program Manager, visited all five sister islands in the Dutch Caribbean to reaffirm the commitment of the DCCA once again. Together with the airport manager and operators of each respective island, visits and talks were held with numerous stakeholders on each island involved in the aviation industry. Important partners such as Government officials, Ministries of Tourism, tourism offices, civil aviation authorities, and airlines were brought up to speed about the development within the DCCA, the work that has been accomplished up to now and what is still in the pipeline. Short term goals and long-term goals were also extensively discussed considering the upcoming DCCA Conference – A Flight to the Future that will be held in November in Curacao. During said conference three important announcements will be made which will further fortify the commitment of the DCCA to reach the end goal of more affordable, efficient, and sustainable inter island connections through airlift.
“As DCCA we are not only looking at the long-term gains of our efforts but also at the short-term wins. Together with our industry stakeholders we will be taking steps towards making the airline connections between the islands much more affordable than is currently the case. As a group we need to make a serious attempt at making the applicable tariffs for airline operators lower and harmonize these as much as possible,” according to Joost Meijs. “We need to invest in this effort in the short term and will enjoy the high volumes of traffic this will create in the future which in turn will have a very positive social impact for all islands involved.”
The DCCA also had very positive and supportive meetings on July the 18th and 19th with executives of important stakeholders of Aruba, namely with the Minister of Tourism and Health, Mr. Danguillaume Oduber, CEO of the Aruba Tourism Authority, Mrs. Ronella Croes, the Minister of Transport, Integrity, Nature and Senior Affairs Mr. Ursell Arends, and the Director of the Department of Civil Aviation of Aruba, Mr. Edwin Kelly
During the various meetings the DCCA partners presented an extensive account of the current situation at the DCCA, including its latest strategic plans and developments in the field of electric flying. The latter mainly in the context of making the flight connections between the CAS and BES islands in the Dutch Caribbean more sustainable in the long term. The working group that is working on a Joint Strategic Plan for this within the framework of the DCCA, was also extensively discussed.
The visits effectuated to the various islands within the Dutch Caribbean has brought the DCCA stakeholders even closer to achieving its goals. By fostering stronger connections between the islands, the DCCA is paving the way for a brighter future filled with endless collaborative possibilities.
About the DCCA
The Dutch Caribbean Cooperation of Airports (DCCA) is a cooperation between all six Caribbean Airports within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. DCCA’s objective is to improve the general quality of each individual airport by facilitating mutual assistance and efficient exchange of information, transfer of knowledge and sharing of expertise with the goal of achieving economies of scale. DCCA aims to present future focused alternative air transportation options to improve interisland connectivity between the Dutch Caribbean Islands.

ORANJESTAD – Durante la semana del 10 de julio de 2023, el Director General de la Autoridad Aeroportuaria de Aruba N.V., Joost Meijs, presidente también de la Corporación de Aeropuertos del Caribe Holandés (DCCA) y la Sra. Joanne Christiaans, Gerente de Programas, visitaron las cinco islas hermanas del Caribe Holandés para reafirmar una vez más el compromiso de la DCCA. Junto con el administrador del aeropuerto y los operadores de cada isla respectiva, se realizaron visitas y charlas con numerosos actores de cada isla involucrados en la industria de la aviación. Socios importantes como funcionarios gubernamentales, ministerios de turismo, oficinas de turismo, autoridades de aviación civil y aerolíneas se pusieron al día sobre el desarrollo dentro de la DCCA, el trabajo que se ha realizado hasta ahora y lo que aún está en proceso. Los objetivos a corto y largo plazo también se discutieron ampliamente considerando la próxima Conferencia DCCA: Un vuelo hacia el futuro que se llevará a cabo en noviembre en Curazao. Durante dicha conferencia se harán tres anuncios importantes que fortalecerán aún más el compromiso de la DCCA para alcanzar el objetivo final de conexiones entre islas más asequibles, eficientes y sostenibles a través del transporte aéreo.
"Como DCCA, no sólo tenemos en cuenta los beneficios a largo plazo de nuestros esfuerzos, sino también los beneficios a corto plazo. Junto con las partes interesadas del sector, tomaremos medidas para que las conexiones aéreas entre las islas sean mucho más asequibles que en la actualidad. Como grupo, tenemos que intentar seriamente que las tarifas aplicables a los operadores aéreos sean más bajas y armonizarlas en la medida de lo posible", según Joost Meijs. "Tenemos que invertir en este esfuerzo a corto plazo y disfrutaremos de los altos volúmenes de tráfico que esto creará en el futuro, lo que a su vez tendrá un impacto social muy positivo para todas las islas implicadas".
La DCCA también mantuvo reuniones muy positivas y de apoyo los días 18 y 19 de julio con ejecutivos de importantes partes interesadas de Aruba, por ejemplo, con el Ministro de Turismo y Salud, Sr. Danguillaume Oduber, la Directora General de la Autoridad de Turismo de Aruba, Sra. Ronella Croes, el Ministro de Transporte, Integridad, Naturaleza y Asuntos de la Tercera Edad, Sr. Ursell Arends, y el Director del Departamento de Aviación Civil de Aruba, Sr. Edwin Kelly.
Durante las diversas reuniones, los socios de DCCA presentaron una amplia descripción de la situación actual en DCCA, incluidos sus últimos planes estratégicos y desarrollos en el campo del vuelo eléctrico. Esto último principalmente en el contexto de hacer que las conexiones de vuelos entre las islas CAS y BES en el Caribe holandés sean más sostenibles a largo plazo. También se discutió ampliamente el grupo de trabajo que está trabajando en un Plan Estratégico Conjunto para esto en el marco de la DCCA.
Las visitas realizadas a las diversas islas dentro del Caribe holandés han acercado aún más a las partes interesadas de DCCA a lograr sus objetivos. Al fomentar conexiones más sólidas entre las islas, la DCCA está allanando el camino para un futuro más brillante lleno de infinitas posibilidades de colaboración.

La Cooperación Holandesa de Aeropuertos del Caribe (DCCA) es una cooperación entre los seis aeropuertos del Caribe dentro del Reino de los Países Bajos. El objetivo de DCCA es mejorar la calidad general de cada aeropuerto individual al facilitar la asistencia mutua y el intercambio eficiente de información, la transferencia de conocimientos y el intercambio de experiencia con el objetivo de lograr economías de escala.
